Sketching the Tang Ancestral Hall

Sketching the Tang Ancestral Hall

Info from Wikipedia
The Tang Ancestral Hall is one of the largest ancestral halls in the territory. It is located between Hang Mei Tsuen and Hang Tau Tsuen.
It was constructed by Tang Fung-shun, the fifth generation ancestor of Tang Clan about 700 years ago. It is the main ancestral hall of the Tang clan of Ping Shan. It is a three-hall structure with two internal courtyards. The wooden brackets and beams of the three halls are carved with auspicious Chinese motifs. Shiwan dragon-fish and pottery unicorns decorate the main ridges and roofs. There are ancestral tablets at the altar at the rear hall.
This ancestral hall is still used regularly for worship and celebrations of traditional festivals and ceremonies, as well as a meeting place for the Tang clan of Ping Shan.

Summer Court, Kun Ting Study Hall

In the Corridor of a Study Hall

I went with a few sketcher friends to a historic building in the Tin Shui Wai district to sketch today. It was a a nice study hall built in 1870 for the local villagers.

Street Market in Graham Street

Graham Street Street Stall
Large street markets are charming in their own way.  Cheaper prices,  more diversity, and a natural integral part of the neighborhood, they are what modern supermarkets cannot replace.   French people know well the importance of these street markets and law was passed to protect them.  How about Hong Kong?

Old Building in Graham Street

This rare building is vacant and is awaiting demolition!  It should be preserved instead of being pulled down and rebuilt!

Sketching on Ladder Street

Ladder Street

I visited Ladder Street once more with a sketcher friend today.  This charming old tenement building here is vacant and no one knows what would be it's fate. To be refurbished or to be demolished just like so many others in Hong Kong?
