Ap Lei Chau Hung Shing Temple 鴨脷洲洪聖古廟

After sketching the Aberdeen harbour, I went with a few sketch friends to the Ap Lei Chau Hung Shing Temple to sketch. Hung Shing is the male sea god of the South Sea. I sketched not just the temple but also the Banyan tree and the very affectionate temple cat.

畫完鴨脷洲海灣，我同幾個畫友去咗鴨脷洲洪聖古廟。廟前有棵大榕樹，形態優美，古廟仲有一隻好嗲人的廟貓。

York in the Evening 約克的黃昏

Another scanned sketch from my UK sketch trip last summer. I stayed with a group of very dedicated sketch friends in the square sketching this charming scene of the old city wall of York and the cityscape until dark.

Ap Lei Chau Waterfront 鴨脷洲海傍

It was my first time sketching at Ap Lei Chau Waterfront. Interesting floating Pier, a lot of Sampans in the Aberdeen harbour and lots of high rises on the other side of the harbour, a truly Hong Kong scene!

第一次嚟到鴨脷洲海傍速寫，感覺新鮮。前往香港仔的水上街渡碼頭，海灣內的船隻及對岸密麻麻的高樓大廈製造了這個香港獨有的奇景。

Finally I started to scan the sketches I did in England and Wales. It was a fine day with occasional sunshine. When the sun came out, I quickly put down the sunlight and shadows.

To Kwa Wan Elver House 土瓜灣愛華大廈

To Kwa Wan will soon undergo a big change as a new MTR station is being constructed in the district.  A number of the old tenement buildings in the area are already made vacant and awaiting redevelopment.  

港鐵將延至土瓜灣，舊區巨變在即，多幢舊樓空置，成為市建局物業，等待重建。

Sunlight on St. Mary's Church 黃昏陽光照耀聖馬利亞堂

After the watercolour dried, I quickly captured the evening sunlight on the facade of St. Mary's Church with a marker before it disappeared.

Nam Chung Sea Dragon Kings Temple 南涌海龍王廟

A man offering joss sticks to the five sea dragon kings. They are the king of the west sea, the king of the east sea, the king of the north sea and the king of the south sea. The one which sits higher up in the middle is the chief sea dragon king. In order to include more detail of the sea dragon kings, I decided to sketch only three of them.

南涌海龍王廟同天后宮面向沙頭角海，供奉天后外還有西海龍王、東海龍王、南海龍王、北海龍王同鎮海龍王。五位海龍王一字排開，造型奇特。 

Hung Fook Street Tenement Building 鴻福街舊唐樓

Hung Fook Street and its proximity is about to undergo great change as another new MTR train line is being constructed in this area. What will happen to the communities here and what will happen to these old tenement buildings? 

新港鐵線通車後，土瓜灣一帶勢必巨變，鴻福街一帶舊唐樓命運如何？

Cantonese Opera Gala in front of the Sai Kung Tin Hau Temple 西貢天后廟前面青年新派粵劇大會演

I did the Illustration at home based on one of the photos I took at the Cantonese Opera Gala in front of the Sai Kung Tin Hau Temple last night.

Sketching St. Joseph Chapel on Yim Tin Tsai Island 速寫鹽田梓聖若瑟小堂

Pokfulam Village 薄扶林村

It was a great day out sketching at Pokfulam Village, the last remaining village on Hong Kong Island. In order to better capture the character of this place, I made a collage of three sketches, the view of the village, the entrance and an alley.

較早時日去了薄扶林村，香港島上最後一條鄉村速寫。遊走村裏村外，畫了村景丶村入口及村內一小徑。

Pre-War Tenement Building in Wellington Street 威靈頓街永和號唐樓

This building is one of the very few remaining pre-war tenement buildings in Hong Kong. Built in 1879 after the great fire in Central, the ground floor originally housed a jewellery shop. The shop was replaced by a dried seafood shop in 1930 until the whole building was closed down in 2007.

此唐樓建於1879年，乃1878年中環大火後重建樓宇。原為珠寶行，後於1930年改為永和號海味店。2007年政府收回，前途未卜。

Mural on Sai Kung Cows 西貢流浪牛牆畫

I spent a few hours working on this simple mural this afternoon in the heart of Sai Kung Town.  I hope this little mural can help the public to pay more attention to the feral cows, our dear neighbours in Sai Kung.

Old Barber Shop in San Po Kong 新蒲崗舊式理髮店

Possibly the oldest shop in San Po Kong. I walked past it every day as a kid when I lived in this area. Now it is the only shop that remains the same in the whole street.

Partial Fisheye Perspective: See Cheung Street, Sai Kung Old Town 局部魚眼透視法：西貢舊墟市場街

A typical Sunday scene in Sai Kung Old Town, relaxing and joyful!  In order to capture more of the street scene and to include more people to the scene, I used partial fisheye perspective to squeeze in a section of the street which would otherwise be outside of the picture frame.  I'll upload a video of the sketch process later to illustrate a bit more.

遊人眾多，慢步街上，星期日西貢舊墟！為了把更多街上的景色畫在畫紙上，我用了局部魚眼透視法盡量把原本在畫紙外的街景收入畫紙範圍內。

Sketching Military Vehicles at Hong Kong Museum of Coastal Defence 香港海防博物館畫軍車

The Hong Kong Museum of Coastal Defence is a place worth sketching again and again!  A former fort used during the Battle of Hong Kong in the Second World War by the British Army against the invading Japanese, it now houses military cars, weapons and original military structures.

香港海防博物館前身為鯉魚門炮台，建成於1887年。1941年12月8日，日本進攻香港，鯉魚門炮台在香港保衛戰中是重要軍事要塞。博物館現展覽不少重要軍事設施、軍車及漁雷等。

I painted this based on a photo I took at the waterfront of Sai Kung Town where fish hawkers gather almost every day to sell their seafood.

西貢漁販經常滙聚西貢市海傍，熱鬧非常，故此我在西貢市海傍影相後在畫室完成此油畫。
