Painting in Progress : Brecon Mountain Railway and Squirrels

 After painting all day, it's time to take a break for now. Today I worked on the under layer of this new painting! I’m painting the curious squirrels observing a passing train of the Brecon Mountain Railway. I’ll go back to it tomorrow.

Sketching at Bryngarw Country Park

On 24 March, I went hiking in Cowbridge and visited a number of places. Along the way I stopped at Bryngarw Country Park to sketch. Time was tight so I did a quick pencil sketch there and when I was home, I finished the sketch with walnut ink and gouache.

Working on the first layer of a painting which depicts the urban wildlife in Hong Kong. A Kite, flying above the high rises in Mong Kok, looking for its prey.

Finished! 完成！Sheep at Sugar Loaf Mountain. I went hiking to the Sugar Loaf earlier. The views were breathtaking! Based on the references I had, I created this piece. I hope you like it!

Two Magpies at Chepstow Castle, Art Print

One for sorrow! Two for joy! Three for a girl and four for a boy. Magpies! A common sight here in the UK! I have been thinking drawing/painting magpies for a while and recently I visited the very beautiful Chepstow Castle and I was captivated by the view across the river. So I thought why not put the magpies and the castle together! Here is the result! Two magpies, two for joy, with the famous Chepstow Castle as backdrop!

Finished the line work! Colouring is the next step! Two magpies in Chepstow. Or should I say near Chepstow? The background is the very beautiful Chepstow Castle. I visited this place just recently and I was captivated by the beauty of it!

Art Print, Tiger on the Mountain 松山峭壁虎生威

Finished!  畫完! 

2022 is the Year of the Tiger. I especially painted this piece before the Chinese New Year arrives. In this piece, I depict a tiger high up on the mountain and regally walks down the cliff of the mountain with ease. The pine tree is a symbol of longevity and for this pine tree which thrives high up on the mountain, I want to convey strength and toughness as well.  Wish you all a great Year of the Tiger!

Tiger on the mountain. The year of the tiger is soon here! It’s time to paint and draw a piece with tiger as the theme and I came up with this piece! The line part is all done. Laying watercolour is the next step.  虎年快到！決定畫一張以老虎為題材的作品！線稿已經畫好。之後是上水彩。

Wooden Framed Art Print:  Trying something new this time! As a cat lover, I am experimenting with the idea of putting cats in various locations. Sculpted by Thomas Nicholls, the Bear is one of the 15 animal sculptures of the Animal Wall of Cardiff Castle. The eyes which seem to be made of glass when I looked at them on location, really added life to the sculpture!

I would slow down my footsteps to look at the beautiful sculptures at the Animal Wall outside Cardiff Castle every time I walk pass them!  The sculptures of the Animal Wall were sculpted by two sculptors. One group was done by Thomas Nicholls in 1891 and the other group was done by Alexander Carrick in 1931. This Lion belongs to the first group of sculptures.

This one is the Lioness. Majestic and calm! As if she's quietly observing something far from her. Or is she standing guard to protect her young ones?

Going back the 10 animals I started some time ago!  Time to apply the second layer to them!  15 animals to paint! 15 animals based on the Animal Wall at Cardiff Castle, Wales!  Hopefully I can get them to the shop some time next week!

UK Wild Life Art, Coot in Pond

I visited Tredegar House Park a few days ago and was delighted as always to see the many waterbirds swimming in the lake there. I took photos of some of them and I was particularly drawn to this coot! I thought it's black body and white head together with the bare branches would make a great Japanese style painting. I used Japanese sumi watercolour/ink to create this piece.

The Hayes, Cardiff, an illustration art piece.

I have just finished this piece which is based on a live sketch I did on a summer day at the Hayes, Cardiff. This time I wanted to recreate it to include a big sky which is filled with summer clouds and flying seagulls! It's now available as art print for your collection on Etsy!
