I would slow down every time to look at the beautiful sculptures at the Animal Wall outside Cardiff Castle! Inspired by these sculptures, I painted the whole series, all 15 of them. This one is one of the two lions holding a shield.
The sculptures of the Animal Wall were sculpted by two sculptors. One group was done by Thomas Nicholls in 1891 and the other group was done by Alexander Carrick in 1931. This Lion belongs to the first group of sculptures.
