St Francis of Assisi’s Catholic Church

A windy and cloudy afternoon gradually turned into a rainy evening! Still my sketcher friends and I were in happy mood as we sketched the Shek Kip Mei area. While some of my friends went to sketch the eateries in a nearby housing estate, another sketch friend and I went to sketch the iconic St Francis of Assisi’s Catholic Church and the street scene here in Shek Kip Mei.

Sketching Tai Hang West Estate

Sketching Tai Hang West Estate with Urban Sketchers Hong Kong. One of the oldest private housing estates in Hong Kong. I really like the structures of the buildings. In order to capture the essence of the estate, I put together a collage sketch.

Abandoned Tenement Buildings at Berwick Street

Abandoned Tenement Buildings at Berwick Street

A band of adventurous urban sketchers sneaked up onto the rooftop of an abandoned tenement building in Berwick Street to search for great views of the Shek Kip Mei area.  We were not disappointed.  The connected rooftops and the cluster of abandoned buildings not only provided us with excellent views of the cityscape around us, they were in themselves a strange but tranquil world that worth to be sketched.  It's really a pity that these buildings are now awaiting redevelopment.

Sketching at Tai Hang Sai Housing Estate

Sketching at Tai Hang Sai Housing Estate

I went sketching at Tai Hang Sai late in the afternoon.  In the shade of the building on my left, I started sketching the security post, the old residential buildings and the trees around me.  Tai Hang Sai Housing Estate was built in 1965 by a private developer, with the support of the British-Hong Kong Government to provide the local residents who resided in wooden huts with better housing.

Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre

Central Courtyard at Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre

Front View of the Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre. Shek Kip Mei, Hong Kong. It was once an old factory building and is now converted into an artist village jointly operated by the Hong Kong Baptist University and the Hong Kong Art Centre. It's an interesting place where you will see many genres of art, puppetry, western oil paintings, Chinese painting, dance, sculpture, wood work, traditional Chinese music instrument...you name it!

A visit to Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre Shek Kip Mei Hong Kong

Went to the Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre (JCCAC) this morning and joined a guided tour. The first photo shows the skylight at the top of the central courtyard and the second one is the old machinery left in this former factory building.
