The shop on the left is a traditional Hong Kong style grocery store, the second store sells shoes, suitcases and school bags, the shop on the far right is a pharmacy.

Warm Winter Day at Choi Hung Estate 冬日彩虹邨

One of the oldest public estates built by the British-Hong Kong Government, Choi Hung Estate was designed by Palmer & Turner Group and was built between 1962 and 1964. The estate was well-designed and forms a quiet space in itself in the otherwise noisy urban landscape.  

Beddings hung under the warm winter sun in the estate's playground,  a familiar sight back in the seventies and eighties.

彩虹邨係港英年代由巴馬丹拿建築及工程師有限公司設計, 各樓宇由1962年至1964年間分期落成。屋邨係鬧市中自成一角，邨內環境清幽，實而不華。

暖陽下曬床單，仿忽時光倒流，返咗去細路時係屋邨見到嘅景象！

Quick Sketch at the Academy of Visual Arts 浸大視覺藝術院走廊上速畫

 

The Academy of Visual Arts at Hong Kong Baptist University is currently housed in a group of historical buildings formerly used by the British Army, which is located in a secluded forested area near Choi Hung. A great place for art creation but sadly the site is going to be returned to the Government for other use. Students there are actively lobbying for staying and I think they should! 

And I wanted to sketch slowly but the mosquitoes wouldn't let me!

浸大視覺藝術院位於前英軍基地，環境青幽，是創作藝術好地方。可惜校舍快交還政府。浸大視藝學生對此地情有獨鍾，現正積極遊說校方同政府停止搬遷。


還有，本想慢畫但實在太多蚊！

Chinese Tempe in front of public housing high rises 三山國王廟 坪石邨

The "Saam Saan King Temple" , 三山國王廟 is dedicated to three "kings" or "legendary figures" who are worshipped in Southern China for centuries. This very temple was bulilt in 1800 an was facing the sea. However, with the now closed old Kai Tak airport which was developed during World War II, the temple has become an inland temple for decades. Behind the temple is three housing blocks of Ping Shek Estate, a public housing project which has been around for four decades.

Note: The tower on the left is used for burning incense for the "kings"
