Two Magpies at Chepstow Castle, Art Print

One for sorrow! Two for joy! Three for a girl and four for a boy. Magpies! A common sight here in the UK! I have been thinking drawing/painting magpies for a while and recently I visited the very beautiful Chepstow Castle and I was captivated by the view across the river. So I thought why not put the magpies and the castle together! Here is the result! Two magpies, two for joy, with the famous Chepstow Castle as backdrop!

2022 is the Year of the Tiger. I especially painted this piece before the Chinese New Year arrives. In this piece, I depict a tiger high up on the mountain and regally walks down the cliff of the mountain with ease. The pine tree is a symbol of longevity and for this pine tree which thrives high up on the mountain, I want to convey strength and toughness as well.  Wish you all a great Year of the Tiger!

Wooden Framed Art Print:  Trying something new this time! As a cat lover, I am experimenting with the idea of putting cats in various locations. I always find two cats sitting together intimately and observing the world an interesting idea! For this piece, I chose Big Ben at night as the setting. Hope you like this framed art print!

The wolf is one of the 15 animal sculptures of the Animal Wall of Cardiff Castle. I would slow down my footsteps to look at the beautiful sculptures at the Animal Wall outside Cardiff Castle every time I walk pass them!  The sculptures of the Animal Wall were sculpted by two sculptors. One group was done by Thomas Nicholls in 1891 and the other group was done by Alexander Carrick in 1931. This Lion belongs to the first group of sculptures.

This one is the Lioness. Majestic and calm! As if she's quietly observing something far from her. Or is she standing guard to protect her young ones?

UK Wild Life Art, Coot in Pond

I visited Tredegar House Park a few days ago and was delighted as always to see the many waterbirds swimming in the lake there. I took photos of some of them and I was particularly drawn to this coot! I thought it's black body and white head together with the bare branches would make a great Japanese style painting. I used Japanese sumi watercolour/ink to create this piece.

This is an urban sketch of the beautiful Angel Hotel in Cardiff that I did in 2018 summer. I sat on the pavement facing the entrance of the hotel and in the background I included a bit of the tower of Cardiff Castle. It gives a sense of location to the hotel. I really liked the lights and shadows on this bright sunny day!

Chinese New Year Sai Kung Flower Market 西貢年宵市場

It's an urban sketch I did in 2019 during Chinese New Year! Even though the flower market wasn't big when compared with the others such as the flower market at Victoria Park on Hong Kong Island, this flower market was a must visit during Chinese New Year in Sai Kung Town! Various festive flowers were put together for people to admire and to purchase! I seized this opportunity to sketch the many festive flowers! Such a happy experience!

Castell Coch / Castle Coch is a beautiful architectural gem in Wales!  I visited this fantastic castle earlier and did a black-and-white sketch there. Based on the sketch reference, I painted this piece with watercolour and added in details with ink pens.  I hope you like it!:)

A urban sketch I did on 29 July 2017! I spent a day walking around Stratford visiting important landmarks related to William Shakespeare. I wanted to cover Shakespeare's whole life in one sketch so I visited and included Anne Hathaway's Cottage, Shakespeare's birthplace, the Guildhall and Grammar School and Holy Trinity Church where Shakespeare was buried. The interesting bit about this sketch was I couldn't plan the composition before hand. I just went with the flow and see how I could fit the landmarks in on the paper at every stop and I was happy with the result at the end of the day.

An urban sketch that I did at the iconic Chun Yeung Street Wet Market back in 2017 during a sketch activity with Urban Sketchers Hong Kong. I really enjoyed sketching the iconic double decker tram, one of the symbols of old Hong Kong, the bat-shape red pawn shop sign and the busy stalls that gave the street its unique character! It was a day to remember! The sketch was done on location with watercolour and various ink pens!

 

Llantwit Major Church Sketch

Another new art print Thanks to my friend’s invitation, I had a great day out to this small charming town of Llantwit Major in South Wales! After exploring the quiet alleys of the town, I visited the charming church of St Illtyd’s which is a church complex in Llantwit Major, Vale of Glamorgan, southeast Wales. According to the information I got and my friend’s explanation, It is located at the site of the oldest college in the United Kingdom believed to have been founded by St Illtud c. AD 508. I settled in the garden of remembrance which gave me the great view of the church tower with rustic walls in front of me.

Llandaff Cathedral Art Print

I walked for an hour from Cardiff city centre to Llandaff Cathedral to sketch on 19 September. The sunlight again created this magical afternoon which provided me with fantastic lights and shadows. What’s even better was the choir singing heavenly songs which could be heard even outside the cathedral.

Sai Kung Cows Watercolour Painting

Cows can easily be spotted in Sai Kung district in Hong Kong. In the past many years I lived in Sai Kung, I met them from time to time, often just in the streets of Sai Kung Town. I like their mild temperament and how they like to walk around in a pack. I used watercolour to paint this piece to depict this iconic creature, a member of wild Hong Kong.
