Nga Chin Wai Village is the only surviving walled village in the urban area of Hong Kong. According to legend it was established in 1278 by a group of people who followed the Song Emperor who fled to Hong Kong from the Mongols. The Chinese characters, read from right to left, "慶有餘" (Hing Yau Yu) engraved on the granite stone above the entrance are said to be the handwriting of the Song Emperor.
This historic village will soon be closed for redevelopment and the remaining villagers are forced to leave the village.
