How to Draw a Cat Roaming in the Woods at Night

 

A quick fun sketch. Few nights ago, I walked back home through a stretch of road where all street lights were out. Moon was shining so bright that it illuminated the slightly wet road. I came home and couldn’t wait to sketch the scene and I couldn’t resist to add a cat to the scene.

Caerphilly Castle

I visited Caerphilly Castle on 26 August. It's a truly magnificent and commanding castle. Built in 1200s, it’s the largest castle in Wales. The sketch here depicts the Cadw Dragons in their lair and the 'leaning' south-east tower of the castle. Belle Vue Park, Newport, South Wales

 

I visited Belle Vue Park, a large Victorian public park in Newport which opened in 1894. One of the main features here is Belle Vue Park Tearoom! I walked around it and finally chose the spot under the shelter of the bandstand which allowed me to sketch the tea house under shade. I like how one of the ornamental pillars of the bandstand frames the tea house!

I was happy to visit St Fagans Museum of History on 3 June 2022 again! Upon seeing Stryd Lydan Barn, a cruck and timber-framed barn, which dates from 1550, I decided to stay there to sketch this historic structure. I really liked the textured surfaces of the old wood. To capture the textures, I spent much time drawing the lines to depict the wood surfaces. I hope you enjoy my video!

Fourteen Locks Canal

Great to meet up with friends of Urban Sketchers Cardiff this morning at Fourteen Locks Canal in Newport. I walked down the canal and saw this beautiful cottage house and decided to sketch it. We had a gathering afterwards and what great sketches everyone produced!

Yesterday I had this pleasure to visit Tintern Abbey and surrounding areas with my friends. Itinerary was tight and I could only made a quick pencil sketch on location. I later colourised the sketch using walnut oil and gel pen and colour pencils.

St Fagans National Museum of History

Spent a nice day at St. Fagans National Museum of History! Lots to see and many buildings worth sketching!

 

Peregrine Study

 A study sketch of the peregrine. I really like the large intense eyes of this bird of prey!

Painting in Progress : Brecon Mountain Railway and Squirrels

 After painting all day, it's time to take a break for now. Today I worked on the under layer of this new painting! I’m painting the curious squirrels observing a passing train of the Brecon Mountain Railway. I’ll go back to it tomorrow.

Sketching at Bryngarw Country Park

On 24 March, I went hiking in Cowbridge and visited a number of places. Along the way I stopped at Bryngarw Country Park to sketch. Time was tight so I did a quick pencil sketch there and when I was home, I finished the sketch with walnut ink and gouache.

Kite Over Mong Kong, Painting in Progress 麻鷹旺角

Working on the first layer of a painting which depicts the urban wildlife in Hong Kong. A Kite, flying above the high rises in Mong Kok, looking for its prey.

Another great hiking trip!  This time to the top of Sugar Loaf Mountain!  Fantastic views!  It’s just too cold to sketch outdoors!  I hope I can go back in summer again. 南威爾斯登山之旅！景色好靚！想畫畫但係實在太凍！夏天再去過。

Sheep at Sugar Loaf Mountain, Abergavenny, Brecon Beacons National Park

Finished! 完成！Sheep at Sugar Loaf Mountain. I went hiking to the Sugar Loaf earlier. The views were breathtaking! Based on the references I had, I created this piece. I hope you like it!
